“A few weeks later, Mr. Sadoun flew to Chicago. “Who put up that sign?” he asked a room of about 200 executives gathered on the 21st floor. “I don’t want to fire them,” he said. “I want to congratulate them.” WSJ
Thanks Arthur!
A few years ago, Publicis Groupe announced they were going to develop “Marcel,” an AI-driven project management platform that will probably (not) change the world. To help pay for it, they weren’t going to enter any work into Cannes, which is a huge incentive-driver for young creatives. We thought this was all very stupid and against the creative spirit of Leo Burnett, who famously said to take his name off the door “when your main interest becomes a matter of size just to be big, rather than good, hard, wonderful work…When you lose your humility and become big shot Weisenheimers a little too big for your boots.”
So I channeled my inner Leo and decided to make a new sign for 35 W. Wacker.
It got some press, we almost got in trouble, and Fishbowl actually liked it!
